Portugal under 21 lose on penalties but the Liverpool fans react on Twitter over Tiago Ilori's impressive performance

Liverpool’s young centre back Tiago Ilori came up with a brilliant performance for Portugal the final of the European Under 21 championship against Sweden.

The Defender was the standout performer for Portugal and helped the team to a clean sheet at the end of 90 minutes and 30 minutes extra time.

Ilori was composed throughout, completing 91 per cent of his passes and making 13 clearances, as he battled to keep John Guidetti quiet.

But the Portugal lost the match on penalties, as Sweden got the better of them with a 4-3 result on their favour.

Arsenal target William Carvalho missed the desicive penalty.

Portugal dominated the game mostly but failed to score with Sergio Oliveira hitting the post on one occasion.

Sweden keeper Patrik Carlgren had come in for criticism during the tournament, but his saves in the shootout proved decisive.

Portugal were very impressive throughout the tounament but failed to win in the final.

However, the standout performance from the 22 year old defender has hugely impressed the Liverpool fans.

They are now believing that the young defender can now feature in the first team for the Merseyside club and they have reacted on Twitter to convey their belief in the young centre back.

Tiago Ilori moved to Liverpool on 2nd September 2013 on a fee around £7 million but failed to appear for the Reds even once in past two seasons. 

To be fair to him, he spent the second half of the 2013-14 season on loan at Granada and was impressive for them. His performance against Barcelona impressed many fans and clubs like Dortmund and Wolfsburg became interested in him.

He had spent the 2014-15 season on loan at French side FC Girondins de Bordeaux and impressed until getting a severe injury to make him sit on the sidelines.

It was also announced that The Football Association were in talks with the highly rated young central defender for him to switch nationality and represent England internationally.

Liverpool defenders had a pretty bad last season and fans want the young Portugese to get chances to feature for the Reds.
