Arsene Wenger’s side were beaten yet again at home, this time by Swansea City in mid-week. The loss meant that the upcoming game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane would be even more important for the Gunners if they hoped to win the Premier League title this term. The north London derby always does seem to bring out the best in the two sides and nothing less can be expected this time around as well. Spurs will have the home advantage, with the crowd behind their back and will look to take back all three points.
However, it will be up to Arsenal to prevent that from happening, as they will look to get back to winning ways after three consecutive loses and a draw prior to that. Both teams have some injury concerns with the visitors having more troubles at this point that their opponents. The French manager will want to get his combination right and it will be a real test for his side.
Here is what Wenger had to say in his press conference prior to this all important tie:
Talking about the injury that Petr Cech picked up, he stated, “Cech had a little groin problem but declared himself 100% fit. You trust the player. He is 33 years of age.”
About the rivalry with Spurs, he added, “We have a competitive rivalry but a fair one. You have that in all sports.”
“It is hard to predict what will happen tomorrow. It is one of the few derbies where the title is at stake.”
On the injuries to his players and their status he added, “Koscielny has a small injury and will be out for tomorrow. Cech is out, Koscielny is not back.”
Responding to Henry’s recent comments, he said, “Thierry Henry has his opinions. He has not found the measurement of the fans’ angriness, of 60,000 people straight away because he sits in the best seats of the stadium.”
Speaking about the previous loss, he stated, We watched the game again. Second goal offside first was the blatant foul on Ozil.”
Confirming Jack Wilshere will take a few more weeks to recover and about his potential selection for the Euro 2016, he said, “I’ve spoken to Hodgson and Jack’s important for him.”
Assuring about his faith in Ospina, he said, “I have complete confidence in Ospina, I don’t worry about that.”
