In their last match Norwich were able to put out a strong
defensive effort and grab a late goal to run out as 1-0 winners over Hull City,
but with 18 goals scored, they have struggled to score goals this season. The
bulk of those goals have been scored at home where they have scored 11 in 11
games. A win for Norwich would be massive and could give them some breathing
room in this season’s 11 team relegation battle.

Newcastle have done well this season by putting themselves
in the middle of the table and within reach of a potential spot in the Europa
League. They sit at eighth in the table with an 11-3-8 record to give them 36
points this season, and could have been higher had it not been for the dropped
points against teams below them in the table. In their 11 away matches in the
Premier League season, they have won six and lost five.

What to expect

In this season’s previous match back in November, Newcastle
won 2-1 at home, and they have also won three and drawn one to Norwich’s one
win in their five meetings. Norwich’s only win came back in early 2011 in the Premier
League. While Newcastle is probably the stronger of the two sides, Norwich has
shown some recent gains in confidence and ability and they are the home side.
Newcastle have struggled in matches which they are the favorite and have often
had a difficult time breaking down teams and seem to prefer to play a
counterattacking style of play, which may work in Norwich’s favor.

Norwich are undefeated in their last 4 home league meetings
against Newcastle, having won 3, and will be looking to extend this run on
Tuesday night. Newcastle, who are yet to draw a league game away from St.
James’ Park this season, have won 3 of their last 4 games.

Norwich manager Chris Hughton faces no fresh injury worries
for the welcome of Newcastle, but he will be without Jonny Howson, Elliott
Bennett and Michael Turner through injury while loan signing Jonás Gutiérrez is
ineligible to play against his parent club.

Newcastle could make just one change from the side that
overcame West Ham with ease since Mathieu Debuchy is available following
suspension and is expected to take Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s place at right-back.
Meanwhile, Yohan Cabaye is expected to start despite interest from Manchester
United and PSG. However, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Taylor and Gael Bigirimana
are all sidelined through injury.

Match Prediction

Norwich have won only 1 of their last 4 matches at home and
it could see the visiting Newcastle side secure maximum points in this one.

Norwich City 1-2
Newcastle United
