Premier League kicked off in the best way possible as almost everyone was sent in to a shock following perhaps result of the season which saw Tottenham Hotspur put Chelsea to the sword by beating then 5-3 at White Hart Lane.
New Year’s day fixtures are always unpredictable as all the teams come from a grilling set of fixtures and some teams have an eye on the next weekend off due to FA Cup involvement. All factors combined, New Year’s day fixtures provide us with the most number of talking points and 2015 was no different as well.
Sportzwiki presents the Top 5 Talking Points from Premier League week 20
Kane overpowers Cahill and Terry
We are not talking of WWE here and certainly we are not discussing the Big Red Machine Kane. We are discussing about a new star being born in the league this season, Tottenham’s Harry Kane. The Spurs’ striker came in to the game against Chelsea with a hot run of form behind him, but not many expected what they saw at White Hart Lane on New Year’s day.
Harry Kane demolished Chelsea’s Center Back pairing of John Terry and Garry Cahill. Kane scored two goals and won the decisive penalty which saw Spurs take the comfortable lead in the game. What a story Harry Kane has been. In last 12 months, Kane has seen his career go from a sporadic first team player to being the second name on the sheet for Pochettino, behind Hugo Lloris.
Harry Kane has made 10 starts in the league this season with a return of 7 goals and 3 assists. When Tottenham were looking deep in to Transfer Market for strikers, perhaps “One of their own” is the real answers. Spurs fans seems to think so as they sang, “He’s one of our own” in ecstasy.
Manchester United’s away form is a concern
When a team has the likes of Robin van Persie, Way Rooney, Radamel Falcao and Juan Mata leading the forward play, it is impossible to think that a team is struggling to find the goals. This is exactly what Manchester United are facing right now and the answer seems to be eluded everyone, including the manager Louis Van Gaal.
Manchester United, have been unstoppable winning most of their games but it’s the away from United need to sort out and sort out quickly. With just 18 games left, If Manchester United have any hopes of catching Chelsea and Manchester City, they will need to win their away games thick and fast.
A sheer act of idiotism at St. Marys
Southampton outplayed Arsenal at St. Marys on the New Year’s Day but, It is a real shame that people will talk about that one IDIOT who ran in front of Arsene Wenger with his arms outstretched, wanting explanations for Arsenal’s loss.
Arsene Wenger has had a torrid time with fans this season this season but the man does not deserve any IDIOT running pass him and looking for answers. Arsene Wenger has been in the game for long enough to not go through such act of sheer idiotism.
Arsenal, in fact have turned the corner since the forgettable run of form last month which saw Arsene Wenger barraged at the Railway station. Arsenal fans must value the job, Wenger is putting in at Arsenal and need to show some more respect towards their manager and of course Arsene Wenger can do without these stupid incidences.
Draws to start with for the new Men-In-Charge
Tony Pulis and Alan Pardrew have started their news era in management by taking over at West Brom and Crystal Palace respectively. Both the managers saw their new team play a draw in their first official sighting of their new teams.
Crystal Palace played a 0-0 draw away from home at Villa Park. Not the most inspiring game to watch, but at least Alan Pardrew saw the defensive resolute in Palace’s side who can go away from home and get a positive result, certainly something to build on for Alan Pardrew, in future.
West Brom gave a good account of themselves against West Ham by drawing the game after West Brom came from behind to level the game. More pleasing fact for Tony Pulis would be to see Saido Berahino back on the score sheet. Certainly there was enough evidence in the team for Pulis to guide them to a respectable position in the league.
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are rattled
I am not exaggerating the point here but I truly believe Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have been rattled with Manchester City and Frank Lampard. Chelsea were seen as the next invisibles in the league but two defeats and a draw in their last 7 league matches see them level on points with Manchester and top the EPL standing on alphabetical advantage only.
In recent weeks, Jose Mourinho has been in the news for believing that there is a campaign going around in the league to stop Chelsea from inning the games. Cesc Fabregas was denied a penalty appeal in the 1-1 draw against Southampton ever since Chelsea have gone on record of saying that “There is a campaign against Chelsea” by the teams and the refs.
It started with Jose Mourinho and now his club captain John Terry has come out today and supported Mourinho’s claims. To me it is a sign of the league leader (Only Just) being rattled with Manchester City getting the results and especially with Frank Lampard scoring the crucial goals. MOurinho will not be able to digest if Lampard leads Manchester City to the Premier League title.
