Preview: Aizawl Out For Revenge Against Chennai FC In I-League

Aizawl, Feb 24 (IANS) Aizawl FC will look to avenge their earlier loss to Chennai City FC when they meet in an I-League football clash here on Saturday.

Aizawl FC had been defeated 0-2 earlier this season by the debutants at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, courtesy the goals netted by Marcos ‘Tank’ Vinicius and Charles de Souza. Now, at home, the north eastern outfit will be attempting to overturn the result.

Reflecting on their defeat at Chennai, Aizawl FC coach Khalid Jamil stated, “Tomorrow’s match is an important one. We are playing a team who defeated us at their home pitch. We have to try to do the same thing to them tomorrow.”

“We have to give our best, if we do that, everything will be okay,” he added.

Aizawl FC will have to play without key player Lalruatthara who is down with an injury. R. Laldanmawia is likely to be seen on the pitch after having scored the winner against Kingfisher East Bengal in their last home match.

Chennai FC head coach V Soundararajan sounded pretty confident ahead of tomorrow’s game, “All my players are fit, but we might face certain difficulties because of the artificial turf.”

At the ninth position with just Churchill Brothers FC Goa below them, he maintained, “There are still several matches to be played, we will try our best in those matches to be safe and to end the season with a good result.”

Chennai City FC midfielder Lalnun Mawia also spoke of his excitement to be playing in his home state, “I am very thrilled to be playing here in Aizawl because the turnout is always huge for the Hero I-League matches.”
