PSG looking to sign Chelsea defender

Latest reports suggest that PSG are looking to sign Chelsea’s right-back Branislav Ivanovic for a hefty transfer fee which is expected to be £15m. The player have become an important player in Chelsea’s success for few seasons by providing solid defense and also scoring goals more than expected.

The 31-year old Serb have moved to Stamford bridge back in January 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow and made a strong impact in his position for the club. Laurent Blanc is reportedly interested in the player’s abilities after winning their Champions League tie against Chelsea recently.

The player has only one year left in his contract after this season. The board offered one year £90,000-a-week deal with which the player is not happy. Mourinho wants a new four year contract for the player, but the board is not showing interest to offer four-year contract as he is 31 now.

Chelsea transfer policy is to offer one year contract for players above 30 and will offer new contracts only if they play well in that season. This led PSG to go for the full back who will be a valuable asset to PSG’s defense.

PSG currently playing Marquinhos, 19, in right back position who is showing tremendous improvement. However, PSG wants Marquinhos to play as centre half in coming seasons as that was his natural position.

Ivanovic have made 41 appearances and scored 6 goals for the Blues this season.
