Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are ahead of Manchester United in their efforts to sign PSV winger Memphis Depay, says PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands.
The winger is heavily linked with the Red Devils ahead of all other clubs but director Brands says PSG and Liverpool have made tremendous efforts in signing the winger, Manchester United have made initial contact where as Bayern Munich despite the speculation have not shown any interest in the young talent.
Memphis Depay had made huge strides of improvement under Louis van Gaal as the manager gave him his first international cap and selected in his Dutch squad to 2014 World Cup. The player shares a special relation with Louis van Gaal which made everyone expect that Old Trafford will be his preferred destination. But Brands says there are other clubs which have done more to try and land the winger in the summer.
He said, “They [PSG and Liverpool] are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United. They [United] have only informed us about their interest.
“Bayern Munich, despite what I’ve read, are not one of them.
“It is only logical that there is so much interest in him. Memphis is enormously efficient for a young player. He should be very proud.
“It is a dream to make a transfer with such a big impact, but I already said: there is a lot of speculation and a lot of stories, but I don’t know how things will work out, so let’s wait and see.”
Memphis Depay is the leading scorer of Eredivise this season with 27 goals so far in the league and the 21-year old is expected to leave PSV Eindhoven this summer as he is in the wish list of many European clubs.
