Real Madrid prepare for Roma Champions League tie

Madrid, March 7 (IANS) Real Madrid held their last training session on Monday in readiness for the second leg of the European Champions League’s knockout stage football tie against Roma on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, French forward Karim Benzema did not take part in the workouts.

French coach Zinedine Zidane has regained his full squad for the second consecutive day, except for Benzema who did not reach full recovery before the anticipated Champions League clash, reports Efe.

German midfielder Toni Kroos returned to the squad after recuperating from flu, while Croatian Luka Modric recovered from an injury to his left ankle that prevented him from playing the last two La Liga matches.

Real Madrid need a boost following the thrashing 7-1 La Liga victory last Saturday against Celta Vigo, in which Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo scored on four occasions and returned to lead Europe’s top goal scorers.

The Merengues are currently approaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, after the first leg’s 2-0 win against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
