Revealed: Alex Ferguson frustrated with Jose Mourinho’s Man United!

After Sir Alex Ferguson chose David Moyes as his successor at Manchester United in 2013, it’s hardly a surprise that the Glazer family have reduced the Scot’s influence at Old Trafford over the past couple of years.

The 74-year-old, who brought an end to his glittering managerial career three years ago, remains on the Old Trafford payroll as a director but, according to the Mirror, the main board of Manchester United plc have regularly ignored his counsel on how the club should be run.

The report adds that nine-man plc board excluded Ferguson, along with Sir Bobby Charlton and David Gill, from the decisions to appoint Louis van Gaal in 2014 and then Jose Mourinho earlier this summer.

For those interested, United’s current plc board is made up of the late Malcolm Glazer’s children Joel, Avram, Kevin, Bryan, Darcie, and Edward.

Ed Woodward, United’s executive vice-chairman, is also on the board along with group managing director Richard Arnold and commercial director Jamieson Reigle.

United sources have told the Mirror that Ferguson is frustrated by the limitations of his directorship at Old Trafford.

Despite the fact he gets paid well for not doing all that much, the legendary British manager reportedly believes that his experience, knowledge, and skills could be utilised to help run the club more efficiently.

But how does Jose Mourinho, an admirer of Ferguson’s, plan to resolve the situation?

The Mirror report add that Mourinho is sympathetic to Ferguson’s stance and wants the Glazer-led plc board to increase communication with arguably the greatest football manager of all time.

Moyes may have been Ferguson’s choice to replace him at Old Trafford, but it’s clear that Mourinho doesn’t hold a grudge.

The two men first met when Mourinho’s Porto played Ferguson’s United in the Champions League during the 2003-04 campaign.

They didn’t see eye-to-eye at first – Ferguson hit out at Porto’s playacting – but their relationship improved once Mourinho became the manager of Chelsea.

They went on to establish a friendship which remains strong to this day – and now they find themselves as colleagues for the first time.
