Watford will throw a far sterner challenge to test Chelsea’s capabilities than Sunderland offered them last Saturday, with this Boxing Day fixture remains an enlightening afternoon for Guus Hiddink. The 59-year-old Dutch tactician’s second spell as interim manager will begin with a late fitness test of Eden Hazard and a much-needed reminder to his confused players that fourth place is still reachable if an instant upturn in form can be reproduced.

The players also will have to prove their worth to the Blues hierarchy, to hold on to their places under interim boss Guus Hiddink. They bounced back quite well against Sunderland, but will need to continue on that rejuvenating path if they want to salvage something from this disastrous campaign.

On the other hand, Watford will be fighting for their first win at Stamford Bridge since May 1986 when David Bardsley’s brace secured a huge 5-1 victory.
