REVEALED: Chelsea came very close to sign the long-term Man United target

If ever there has been one certainty during the transfer windows in recent seasons, it has been Wesley Sneijder being linked with a move to Old Trafford. Sneijder was favourite to join Van Gaal’s revolution at Manchester United this season having worked with the manager during 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Instead, from the recent reports it is believed that one of former Sneijder’s manager Jose Mourinho came very close to signing to the Dutch ace this season. Mourinho worked with Sneijder in the incredible treble winning season with Inter Milan.

In an exclusive news, Galatasaray president Duygun Yarsuvat has claimed that Chelsea were the only club to bid for Wesley Sneijder at the start of the season.

Yarsuvat told GS TV that “Chelsea made an offer for Wesley Sneijder at the start of the season.

“He could have been beside Jose Mourinho, that is the only club he would have joined. But he’s happy at Galatasaray.”

It is believed that Jose Mourinho pulled out of the deal only when he was confirmed of the arrival of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.

Sneijder looked set to leave Galatasaray in both the previous Transfer windows. More recently Sneijder was linked with a move to Juventus but things did not go through smoothly for the Dutch maestro.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Sneijder over the years and when Van Gaal took over the reins at Old Trafford, Sneijder was deemed as the man to lead the mid field revolution at Old Trafford. Instead Sneijder is at Galatasaray and in goal scoring form as well.

Sneijder scored two goals in Galatasaray’s 4-1 win over Konyaspor in the Turkey Cup. At least for this season Sneijder looks set to stay at the Turkish giants but when the next transfer window would re-open expect Sneijder’s name to be on top of the list of players being linked with a move to Manchester United.
