Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been told by Southampton, he will have to spend £62.5 million to sign their star striker Sadio Mane, according to The Sun.

The highly rated Southampton striker who was benched for disciplinary reasons during yesterday’s match, is interested to make a move to Manchester United this month but demands £125,000-per-week in a five-year contract.

His £30million wage will eventually mean another sensational splurge from United manager van Gaal as he is determined to add more pace to his attacking line and has been scouting Mane along with Lazio’s Felipe Anderson for long.

Sadio Mane who was late for a team discussion ahead of Saints’ 1-0 defeat to Norwich yesterday, also wants a big move after his impressive performances.

The 23-year-old striker however came on as a substitute for the last ten minutes but is interested in a move to United or Chelsea, having made a huge impact at St Mary’s since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg back in 2014.

Louis van Gaal tried to sign the attacker last summer also while his total transfer spending passed a stunning £250m.

However, Saints boss Ronald Koeman recently alleged that his star player has now lost all his focus.

He justified: “Sadio was one of the 11 players to start but we have rules.

“In our last meeting two hours before the game he came late. That is impossible. Everybody knows we have a sanction — you don’t start.

“Then you have to make changes in the team and the set-pieces.

“I don’t understand a player who comes late to the last meeting.

“My message to him days ago was that he wasn’t really focused. It was Thursday’s training.”

Southampton were earlier determined to hold on to Mane back in summer when United placed their first offer but with the Red Devil’s another attempt to snatch their player, they will be tested for sure.

United even though offered almost £20m for the 23-year-old in the last transfer window, were eventually knocked back by the Saints and it was suggested that Southampton were trying to double the sum. Southampton till now not in a mood to do business with Manchester United because the youngster could be offered a choice to move to Bundesliga as Bayern Munich showed interest for the Senegal international bidding a lucrative transfer offer. However, Chelsea are also said to be eyeing Mane, although the current scenario suggests, the player would prefer Manchester United if his club decides to sell him to an EPL club.
