Revealed: Predicted lineups of Arsenal and Manchester City, star striker set to return

Sankha Ghosh / 20 December 2015

Arsenal will be looking to continue their winning run when they face Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Monday evening.

Arsene Wenger’s men have won their last three fixtures in all competitions and will head into the big match on the back of a comprehensive 2-0 victory against Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park.

The Gunners are right now second in the Premier League table with 33 points from as many as 16 matches and two points behind league toppers Leicester City and a point ahead of third-place Manchester City. After sitting out three games with hamstring injury, Alexis Sanchez set to return to the squad and this is a huge boost for but the Chilean might not play from the start

On the other hand, Manchester City will step into Monday evening’s match on the back of a 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Etihad Stadium. Manuel Pellegrini’s troops have so far this month produced mixed results, and the players will be desperate to snatch all three points from the match. Pellegrini’s big boost will be Sergio Aguero’s possible return to action as the star striker already started full training.

Here is the predicted line-up for Arsenal:

Goalkeeper – Labelled as arguably the super signing of the summer of Premier League, Petr Cech failed to prove his worth in the first two league matches, but since then it’s magical Cech, he was exceptional on his last few league fixtures. Certainly it will be Cech in the goalkeeping position and yet another important fixture waits for the 33-year-old shot-stopper as they take on Manchester City this Monday.

Defence –

RB: Hector Bellerin

The promising youngster has almost cemented his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting Line-up leaving  Debuchy’s Arsenal career in great danger. The Spanish full-back could become a real threat for the away sides. Hector is fully fit and is ready to take on the Citizens

CB: Per Mertesacker

The German looks set to be back in the starting line-up this Monday and is ready to partner along with Laurent Koscielny. Mertesacker was quoted as saying the supporters deserve better performance from the Gunners and they will rightly deliver. He looks ready for the clash and his head to head battle with City attackers would be a perfect entertainment.

CB: Laurent Koscielny

The solid French centre-back is expected to start once again against Manchester City. Laurent has been a consistent performer for the Gunners, analyzing his performances so far, he will play an important role to stop the pace and counter of Manchester City’s attack.

LB: Nacho Monreal

One of the most improved players in the Arsenal squad, The Spanish Full back has eventually benched Kieren Gibbs from a while now and he is set to do it once again after giving strong performances and he is also on the verge of a new contract, a match-winning performance against City will surely cement that.

Midfield –

CM: Mathieu Flamini

Mathieu Flamini will again fill the gap left by Francis Coquelin who has been ruled out for at least two months with a knee injury, his determination to play for the first team squad reflects in every performance and the match against City could be the perfect stage for him to show that he still got potentials to start regularly for Arsenal.

CM: Aaron Ramsey

The Welsh international who recently returned to the squad from injury once again will be Wenger’s key man in the midfield and he will start on his preferred position harbouring in the central midfield as Cazorla being sidelined due to an injury.

AMC: Mesut Ozil

In-form Ozil could be a real threat for the away sides this Monday. The German international is enjoying an exceptional run of form  and looks solid as the season progresses. Arsenal fans expect more from such a big named player.

LW: Theo Walcott

Walcott’s strong pace, dribbling, techniques and finishing could be a real threat for Manchester City. There is a high probability of him making into the lineup this Monday.

RW: Joel Campbell

This could be an ideal stage for the 23-year-old to prove his critics, he has to step up and deliver more effectively if he wants to start regularly. There is no doubt that he has the potentials and should do everything to help his team mates get a victory in this match.

Striker –

Olivier Giroud is expected to lead the attack. His strong physicality and finishing could be a real threat for City’s weak defence. Giroud himself will be desperate to increase his goal tally.

Here is the predicted line-up for Manchester City.

Goalkeeper –

To nullify the attacking force of the Gunners, City relies on their star Goalkeeper Joe Hart. The Englishman will be looking to produce a clean sheet but Hart’s reflexes will be challenged as Manchester City’s defence is not enjoying a good season.

Defence –

CB: Otamendi

The former Valencia defender was signed to provide Kompany a reliable defensive partner, and yet with the Belgian’s injury, Otamendi has rightly been said as City’s best defender while Kompany in absent. Against Arsenal, he will face a tough challenge as Olivier Giroud will be the main threat upfront for the Gunners while the quick pace of Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil’s creativity will deliver other major threats.

CB: Mangala

The weakest point in City defence in Mangala, his continued poor performance has made the back four vulnerable and against Arsenal, he will face a tough challenge.

LB: Kolarov

Kolarov’s advanced role in the City defence can be highlighted by a number of crosses the Serbian has put in this term. Along with his 53 crosses, Kolarov’s overlapping runs are a regular feature of the Citizen’s counter-attacks, and against Arsenal also he has to prove his credibility.

RB: Sagna

His recent performances might become a worry for Pellegrini considering the excellence of Arsenal’s attacking line but the Chilean boss once again has to put his faith on Sagna.

Midfield –

CM: Toure

Toure started this season just like a train, but Pellegrini must be now wondering if it is time to start managing the midfielder’s game time more carefully avoiding injury scare. At 32, the rigours of playing twice a week is beginning to take its toll but at his best he’s unstoppable for sure, but it’s a question of how frequently he can produce that and tomorrow if City have to stop the consistent attacks from Arsenal Toure will be influential.

CM: Fernandinho

The Brazilian will have to play a key part in the central midfield to shield all the attacks.

LW: Sterling

Operating down the left flank Raheem Sterling will be a key figure in Manchester City’s attacking line. The youngster is also looking to make an impact when Arsenal host them.

RW: De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne is said to return after he was benched due to fatigue against Swansea and he will be rearing to split apart Arsenal defence down the flank.

AMC: Silva

David Silva is nicknamed Merlin due to his capability of producing magic, he generally orchestrates the play with a deftness of touch and outstanding movements which can be almost impossible to stop and against Arsenal he will be a key figure in every attacking movement.

Striker –

Aguero – For sheer goal-scoring prowess there is no one to rival Aguero in the Premier League now, with arguably only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi ahead of him on the world stage but injuries have affected his performance graph and he will be desperate to score returning from three-match injury absence.
