The German maestro has recently rejected Arsenal’s offer for a contract extension and has already been targeted by his former club’s arch-rivals Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.

And now a report from Marca claims, Mesut Ozil may leave Arsenal at the end of this season and has even rejected the Gunner’s offer of a new contract as he is seeking new adventure.

The report also suggests the star midfielder doesn’t think Arsenal becoming a team that can realistically win the Champions League, a promise which was made to him when he arrived at Emirates from Real Madrid in 2013.

The report further claims, Barcelona have already approached the German star’s representatives and are well aware of his current situation.

The La Liga champions quite expectedly rate Ozil highly, and their interest dates back as long as 2010 when he could have joined Barcelona instead of Real Madrid, but Pep Guardiola then thought that his arrival could block Thiago Alcantara’s progression to the first team.

One major problem for Barcelona would be the competition they will face for Mesut Ozil, whose contract runs till 2018 while last season’s Champions League winners could struggle to secure the service of the marquee midfielder, as well as cover in defence and attack.

Not only that, Arsenal are still seen as the Premier league title contenders this season, and any offer for Ozil might be rocked back if they manage to win it, but yet another season without a major trophy could make it difficult for them to keep a hold on their star performer.

However, Real Madrid included several clauses in the transfer deal with Arsenal for Mesut Ozil which would later stop him from joining arch rivals Barcelona.

The transfer details recently revealed by Football Leaks highlighted the actual fear at the Santiago Bernabeu that the German midfielder may one day decide to play at Camp Nou.

The first aspect of these particular clauses is, the first right of refusal Madrid have on Ozil if a Spanish club want him. But there is no such reference to Barcelona, but it’s quite clear they are the only real club who could take on such an outstanding move and if Arsenal decide to let go the player, Madrid will have the chance to capture Ozil by equalling the offer of Barcelona. That means they always have the possibility to prevent a move to Catalonia.  In the case Madrid do not act on this right of refusal, if the transfer is over 50million euros, what Arsenal paid, Los Blancos will bag 33 percent of the fee.

Apart from Marca’s report, German newspaper Bild has also come up with a shocking story. They claim, one of Ozil’s agents have informed them about the current situation and it’s certainly a concern for Wenger, “It is well known and true that Arsenal want to extend with Mesut. It is also true that there are constantly other requests for him. Mesut is a world champion, the most creative player in Europe, Germany’s top player – so it is clear that top clubs show their interest in him.”
