Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has revealed that the club were very close to signing French striker Kylian Mbappe before the youngster made a move to AS Monaco.
The 18-year old is one of the biggest sensations in European football this season as he played a huge role in Monaco’s dominance both in Europe and in the French league. The youngster made huge progress this season and has caught the eyes of some of the biggest clubs in Europe including Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona to name a few.
However, four years ago, the Frenchman has met with Zinedine Zidane who was then a coach in the youth system to discuss over a move to Bernanbeu. But the young Mbappe has opted to move to Monaco from AS Bondy and has been reaping the benefits now after making a great decision on his future.
Zidane has revealed about the talks ahead of Bilbao clash as he said: “He almost signed for Real Madrid but then he went to Monaco.
“I can’t speak about this. We know he’s a good player, what he’s doing at his age is fantastic, but that’s it. What I’m interested in is what we are going to do tomorrow. But he was about to sign here, yes.”
Mbappe has been nothing less than a sensation after making his debut in 2015. He was directly involved in 25 goals this season which accounts for 63 minutes/goal.
His confidence on the ball and his quick feet has been the talking points in Mbappe’s game as he became the youngest player in nearly 30 years to reach 10 Ligue 1 goals this term.
Mbappe is also one of the most in-form strikers in Europe at the moment as he has scored nine goals in his last eight games for Monaco which also include hat-trick against Metz and two in two against Man City proving his quality against one of the best English teams.
