Chinese Super League Shandong Luneng have revealed that they are not interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, saying he “is not our cup of tea.”
Despite impressive performances for the Blues in the limited opportunities he got, Cesc Fabregas have thrived under Antonio Conte. However, he has struggled for playing time as he managed a mere five Premier League starts so far this season.
This has led to increasing speculations of him leaving the club in near future as Conte has preferred the duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante. He has been linked with a move to CSL as the Chinese transfer window remains open till the end of February.
However, despite all the reports, the club have rejected the move for the talented midfielder.
“Fabregas is not our cup of tea,” a statement on the club’s Weibo channel said. “Recently, some reports have spread the word that Shandong will buy new foreign players.
“Bear in mind, now that Chinese New Year is over, this fake news can be stopped. This news is all untrue.
“This season Shandong won’t sign any new foreign players. We have already reduced the number of our foreign players by transferring or loaning them out. We have started our youth system development.
“How about we develop our own Fabregas?”
Shandong’s last big signing was Graziano Pelle from Southampton and the Italian has rescued the club from getting relegated last season. Shandong are one of the big clubs in China as they were champions in 1999, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
But with their struggles last season, the club are keen to spend more money to increase the quality in their squad. Meanwhile, Fabregas has recently revealed that he prefers to move to American MLS than China once his European footballing career finishes.
