According to a report from The Telegraph west Ham are keen on Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic – but the Blues may not be willing to let him leave in January.
Begovic, 29, earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers during his time with Stoke City, racking up more than 150 top flight appearances for the Potters before his performances earned him a move to Chelsea.
With Petr Cech sold to Arsenal, Begovic was signed by Jose Mourinho to offer Chelsea another goalkeeping option, but Begovic was immediately left as second-choice behind Thibaut Courtois.
Begovic has yet to play this season, but an injury to Courtois last season did mean that he played 17 games, and there appears to be interest in his signature ahead of the January transfer window.
The Telegraph report that West Ham United are keen to snap up Begovic in January, with manager Slaven Bilic potentially considering his options between the sticks.
Adrian has endured a difficult season so far, though backup Darren Randolph told The Irish Sun earlier this week that he won’t leave the club even if he loses his spot as Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper
It’s unclear just who would lose out if Begovic does head to the London Stadium, but the report suggests that Chelsea may not even let him go, given that Eduardo would be left as the only backup to Courtois.
Begovic would be an upgrade on Adrian, but the Bosnian international may well be difficult to prise away from Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte planning a title challenge, and any injury to Courtois could derail their chances should Begovic leave.
