The most decorated manager in the history of British football, Sir Alex Ferguson gets a huge attention whenever he speaks.

Ahead of the release of his new book ‘Leading’ the 73-year-old spoke to Sky Sports’ Jim White and talked about many players like former Arsenal captain Tony Adams, Liverpool legend and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher and the two biggest names in world football Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He also spoke about Chelsea legend Zola.

He was asked to pick players who impressed the former Manchester United manager during his 26-year spell in charge of Old Trafford. He picked Arsenal legend Tony Adams, Liverpool favourite Jamie Carragher and a Chelsea magician in Gianfranco Zola.

The legendary Scott said that Tony Adams and Jamie Carragher were not among the most talented footballers, but their determination and inner desire made them ‘winners’.

He was quoted, “As opponents, if you take Tony Adams and Jamie Carragher you would say they weren’t the most talented players. They weren’t the quickest, but they had this inner desire and determination; they were always going to be winners.”

He said that the duo had the quality to influence their teams. He also said that Adams was like an arsenal player in Manchester United shirt. He also said that he tried to sign Adams for Red Devils when he was 19. He also said that the English former defenders were perfect examples of getting at the highest level if you have determination and inner desire for success.

He said, “They influenced all their teams. I think Tony Adams was a United player in an Arsenal shirt to be honest with you. I thought he would have been absolutely perfect for United. I tried a little bit [to sign him] when he was 19 and in the reserves, but there was no chance.”

“Those two are great examples of how far you can go in the game when you’ve got an inner determination and desire to be successful. You see that through the careers they had,” he added.

He also said that Carragher has what it takes to become a great manager as he is in television and has all the materials to be successful. He said, “Obviously Carragher is in television but I think he’d make a great manager. I think he’s got all the materials.”

He also talked about former Chelsea player Zola, who was a magician with football in his feet and said that he annoyed him a lot during his playing career with enjoying playing against his team with a smile on his face. He said, “Little Gianfranco Zola… he annoyed me. He was one of these players who was unperturbed about who he was playing against. He always seemed to have a smile on his face and that annoyed me.”

He added,“How can he be enjoying himself playing against United? Nobody else does. He was a fantastic player and I loved watching him. It was enjoyable and for me to say that about an opponent tells you how much I admired him.”
