Stamford Bridge outfit Chelsea are busy preparing for their trip to Watford after a last minute victory over West Ham United in the first game of the new season.

Antonio Conte, the former Italian boss, who is now incharge of Chelsea, has made a couple of superb signings this summer but is still in search of a further additions to the squad ahead of the next season.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kalidoub Koulibaly are scouted to improve options in attack and in defense, but a recent link has suggested that the Blues are closing in on the signature of a ex-Real Madrid shot-stopper.

Conte is reportedly looking at players as a cover for first choice goal-keeper Thibaut Courtois to replace Asmir Begovic at the club this season.

It is understood that Begovic is not happy with a place on the bench at the Bridge and wants to leave the club in search of regular first team football and it is now revealed that Conte is ready to let Begovic go after signing a new shot-stopper.

Former Real Madrid man, Diego Lopez is reportedly close to a move to Chelsea according to the Sun.

The 34-year old who is currently plying his trade in Milan has been an integral part of the squad for some time now. However Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in getting him to England this summer and is ready to pay the price for his signature.

He is an experienced candidate who will not only help the Chelsea side on the field but also in the dressing room. His expertise can also help Courtois become a better keeper than he already is.

Begovic is a more than decent goal keeper who deserves more chances in the first team for top clubs in the country and he is justified in wanting to move away from the club.

Conte seems to have understood his situation and is ready to replace him with Lopez before he Begovic makes a move.

At 34, Lopez will not cost a lot of money but Begovic will fetch a lot more to Chelsea making this deal a profitable one not only according to the personnel but also financially.

It is said that a deal is almost stuck but no official word is out yet and it is to be seen if Lopez is happy to play second fiddle under Courtois at Chelsea.

Do you think Chelsea should let go of Begovic this summer?
