In what comes as a sigh of relief for Chelsea fans, un-settled defender Branislav Ivanovic has reportedly agreed terms for a contract extension at the Stamford Bridge.
The Times stated today that the defender who was close to leaving the club has now signed a one year contract extension with the club.
The 32-year old defender looked set to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract with Chelsea expires but swift action from the Blues has now seen the left back commit himself to the club for yet another year.
However, not many fans were happy to see the terms of the contract that bind the player to the club for only a year. Chelsea have a habit of offering just one year extensions eve to key players over the age of 30 a policy that has hurt them in the past.
Players like Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard left the club with the latter playing for Manchester City and also ended up scoring against the Blues.
Ivanovic seemed to be on the same route out of the club with several reports stating that the player was already in talks for a pre-contract with another club.
However, the player seems keen to play at the London franchise at least for another season and has signed the contract extension without too much of a fuss.
This deal will be taken with diverse opinions as Ivanovic has failed to impress this season and has been a liability in many of the game. However, tying him to the club for another year is beyond doubt a good deal for Chelsea.
Chelsea welcome the Baggies in their next Premier League fixture on Wednesday night.
