Star Liverpool Defender Makes Long Awaited Exit On The Deadline Day

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool managed to arrest their slide in the Premier League as they stole a point from top of the table Chelsea’s trip to Anfield this week.

David Luiz’ wonder goal gave Chelsea the lead in the first half but Georginio Wijnaldum popped up with a header in the second half to get the score back to level terms. This draw keeps the Reds within 10 points off Chelsea at the top leaving them with a lot of work to do for the rest of the season.

The manager has been rather sedate in the January transfer market and has not managed to add any big players to the squad and on the deadline day, he managed to get a deal done for French defender Mamadou Sakho.

The 26-year old has now completed a loan move to the Selhurst Park till the end of the season.

Sakho has posted a picture of himself with a Palace shirt on his Twitter profile

Sakho, who was a mainstay at the club in the previous season, picked up an annoying ban for abuse of a banned substance by the WADA. He was dropped out of the Liverpool squad for the Europe League Final and also the EURO16 final by France.

Though he was discharged off all the allegations, his antics on the pre-season tour with Liverpool got him frozen out of the first-team.

The new manager Jurgen Klopp decided to lay down the law and pushed Sakho out of the senior squad and put his up for sale in the summer. But the Reds were not able to find any potential suitors.

Sakho has ever since been playing for Liverpool U23s and never looked like getting back into the senior squad.

He was linked with an exit in January with Jurgen Klopp ready to off load him on a permanent basis but Crystal Palace have now signed him on a loan till the end of the season.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp’s side were holding out for a fee of £20m this January which scared off sides such as Southampton and Spartak Moscow earlier this last month.

And it is now understood that Palace negotiated for hours on the deadline day before they came to an agreement with the Anfield outfit.

Sam Allardyce, the new manager at the Park, was looking to add a number of players to his squad and was interested in signing Sakho on a permanent basis. But he was not ready to meet his valuation and had to settle for a loan.

It is understood that Palace have paid Liverpool a fee of £2m for his loan and are ready to pay his wages of £100,000-a-week, giving Liverpool a break on his payments.

It is understood that Liverpool rejected an offer of £12m + £3m in addonns and are now happy to have the player back at the club at the end of the season.

Sakho has not made a Premier League appearance since April last year but is expected to partner Scott Dann at the back for Palace for the rest of the season.

Do you think Liverpool should have given Sakho another chance?
