Steven Gerrard opens up about Liverpool chances for Premier League title

As if training with the squad was not enough a lift, Steven Gerrard who left his childhood club, Liverpool, in the summer said that this current squad under their new manager Jurgen Klopp have an opportunity to enter the title race this season.

The long-serving Liverpool legend did not have a successful season as LA Galaxy were out of the MLS in the playoffs. Steven Gerrard is presently in Liverpool and training with the squad to keep himself fit for the next season in the USA.

He already expressed his admiration towards the German manager and has now been quoted saying that his former club has a real chance to get into the midst of the title race.

”Obviously, we all want to reach for the stars but crazy expectations are not going to help anyone,” Gerrard said.

”I do not think it [talk of a title] is fair on the manager or the players. Where they are at the moment they just need to take every game as it comes and have the top four as the main target.
Steven Gerrard in his glamorous Liverpool career could not get his hands on the Premier League title and finished 2nd twice.

He added, ”If someone offered me a trophy and the top four now, of course, I would take that. But I also think there is an opportunity to get involved in the title race because no one is running away with it this season. Usually, at this time of year, you would have a Chelsea or a Manchester City looking unbeatable.

”There is not one team that I think will not lose two games before the end of the season. Not just for Liverpool, but for Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham, it is the first season for a few years when Chelsea and City have not looked like the favorites. So there is an opportunity to get involved in the title race.”

Liverpool now sits 9th in the Premier League table and have shown some great improvement in their mindset since Brendan Rodgers was replaced. They produced some brilliant football at the Etihad in the 4-1 victory but are still a work in progress. They have won just one game at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp and will have to turn it around as quickly as possible to have any chance at the title this season.

Their next Premier fixture is away from home Watford who are two places above them in the points table. So this game is virtual 6 pointers for Liverpool and can lift their position considerably given the nature of the results this season.
