The January transfer window has barely slammed shut and talks about summer reinforcements are already in the air. Perhaps it is a chance for clubs to right the wrongs of January and move forward with a hope of tying up everything in the summer. Here we look at the possible summer signings for Arsenal.

  1.      JULIAN DRAXLER (FC Schalke 04)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Arsenal 1

The young German starlet was very much in the news linking him with an outrageous move to Arsenal in January. But a deal couldn’t be closed in the frantic and unpredictable month of January. Perhaps the asking fee was a bit on the higher side of what Arsene Wenger had in mind, and given that Draxler is only 20, time is on his side. 2014 being a World Cup year further put paid to the Gunners’ hopes of signing him as Draxler looks to cement his place in Jogi Low’s Brazil-bound squad. Not really a necessity with Arsenal already having a glut of midfield gems in their squad, but will be a marquee addition to an already talent-saturated squad.

  2.      DIEGO COSTA (Atletico de Madrid)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Arsenal 2

Arsenal have done pretty well to be Premier League leaders with only one genuine striker in Olivier Giroud in their ranks. But with the dreaded, fixture-heavy month of February looming, Wenger could rue his lack of activity in January, particularly the one concerned with bringing a new forward to the Emirates. Lucas Podolski and Theo Walcott can play up front as well, but aren’t the type of typical forwards who likes to stay up field without too much of a frill. Diego Costa is hot property across continents, and is a player who would be particularly hard to prize away from La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid. Costa would also cost well above most players on the planet, but his addition would elevate the Gunners to a whole new level.

  3.      DARYL JANMAAT (Feyenoord)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Arsenal 3

Bacary Sagna is out of contract in the summer and he could be heading off to pastures new in the summer, given the wealthy clubs in France and their endless reserves of money. Well at 30-years of age, Sagna would be advised to spend his swansong in relative obscurity, away from the high pressure Premier League. And that means Arsene Wenger could well bring in a new right back in the summer. Feyenoord’s Dutch international Daryl Janmaat is one name mentioned across various media; the lad is 24-years-old and could be a long term replacement for Sagna. How much Wenger will shell out in the summer for the elegant defender is the big question.
