Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal travel to wales to take on Swansea, which spoilt Van Gaal’s perfect first day in charge at Old Trafford. Garry monk’s side beat Unite don the opening day of the 2014-15 season by 2 goals to 1 and made Van Gaal suffer on the very first day at work as the Manchester United boss.
Manchester United will be out for retribution as much as getting their focus steady on the much coveted Top 4 finish this season. United are firmly sitting on3rd position but any slip-up here and there and suitors will hunt United down.
Injury wise both the sides have almost a clean slate at the moment. There are odd injuries for both the sides but nothing serious to disrupt either side’s preparation heading in to the game.
For the home side their key man Gylfi Sigurdsson returns after serving a three-match suspension.
Wayne Routledge (calf) is also in line to start his first Premier League game for five weeks and Marvin Emnes is available following hamstring trouble.
Only Concern for Garry Monk is Kyle Bartley, who has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury
Manchester United will welcome their Striker Robin van Persie, who missed United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Preston due to an unspecified injury.
Defender Phil Jones has overcome his knee problem and will be available for selection.
Michael Carrick (calf) is the only player injured at the moment for Louis Van Gaal.
Gylfi Siggurdson vs Daley Blind
One is the key attacker for his side while the other holds everything up for his team. Gylfi Sigurdsson has been in fine form for Swansea this season. With 4 goals and 8 assists to his name, Sigurdsson has been one of the standout performers this season.
Sigurdsson had scored the winning goals against Manchester United earlier in the season and he will look to score whenever he gets a chance in the game.
Daley Blind has been United’s best summer signing for sure. Blind’s intelligence on the ball makes him an ideal man to hold the mid field and supply balls for the likes of Angel Di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin Van Persie to go out and attack the opponents.
Blind has a staggering 89% pass accuracy this sason with 42 interceptions and 27 key passes. Blind has slotted in Van Gaal’s team beautifully and is the first name on the sheet for Manchester United these days.
Angel Di Maria vs Ki Sung Yeoung
Both the teams would rely on these two to carry their attacks in the game. As per stats Di Maria and Ki Sung Yeoung have been the liveliest players from midfield for their respective sides.
Di maria has created 37 chances this season, whereas Dung Yeoung has 17 chances to his name. Di Maria has been getting back to his early season form for United and Van Gaal would hope that the Argentine continues his recent run of form.
Ki Sung Yeoung scored the opening goal for Swansea back in August and overall in the season, he has been a key figure for Gary Monk’s team.
Bafetimbi Gomis vs Chris Smalling
These two big guys will be key men in fighting the aerial duels for their respective sides. Since Bony’s departure to Manchester City, Gomis has taken over as the number 1 striker at Swansea.
One of biggest strength for Gomis is his heading ability. Swansea have gifted wingers to put the balls in for Gomis to test United’s defense thus Chris Smalling will be the key for Van Gaal’s side to negate the threat of Gomis in the air.
- The Red Devils had won five and lost none of the six Barclays Premier League games against Swansea before defeat on the opening day of this campaign at Old Trafford.
- Robin van Persie has scored three goals in three Premier League appearances at Liberty Stadium.
- Manchester United have conceded a league high 46% of their goals from set pieces.
- The Red Devils have lost just one of their last 15 Premier League matches (W10 D4 L1). In that 15 game run, they have picked up more points than any other team in the top flight.
- Swansea have won just one of their last seven Premier League games (W1 D3 L3).
- Wayne Rooney has yet to fire in a single shot on target in six games in 2015 in the Premier League.
- Only Chelsea (18.6%) have scored with a higher proportion of their chances than Man Utd (18.0%).
Swansea : (4-2-3-1) – Fabianski, Fernández, Naughton, Taylor, Williams, Cork, Ki Sung-yueng, Montero, Shelvey, Sigurdsson, Gomis,
Manchester United : (4-1-2-1-2) – De Gea, Rojo, Smalling, Shaw, Valencia, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Fellaini, Rooney, Van Persie
I see Manchester United continuing their unbeaten run of form in last 17 matches and completing their revenge for the early season’s setback against Swansea.
Without Bony, Gary Monk’s side look light in big games and such will be the case when United travel to Liberty stadium this weekend.
