John Terry Leaving Chelsea Becoming Reality, Antonio Conte Identifies perfect Replacement

It appears almost certain that John Terry will leave Chelsea this summer. The club captain will not be replaced easily, but the Blues are already linked with possible successors.

Attention is currently being drawn to Middlesbrough, specifically to defender Ben Gibson. The 23-year-old has impressed this season and, as reported by The Mirror, is highly thought of at Chelsea. Given his age and promise, Gibson would serve as a long-term replacement for Terry, but will likely attract wide interest come the summer.

Such interest will likely inflate his price, and already a figure of £30 million is being suggested for the move. Chelsea, however, fresh from their £60 million payday upon Oscar’s departure to China, appear well equipped to meet such a fee.

Gibson joined Boro in 2011 and inked a new contract at the Riverside just last summer, intended to keep him at the club for the next four and a half years. Such a timeframe appears fanciful in the wake of such interest, though.

Chelsea supporters may protest such a move, as they can rightly point to Kurt Zouma’s recovery from injury and Nathan Ake’s return from Bournemouth. Both players, particularly the latter, offer Antonio Conte tremendous flexibility and would appear to provide adequate cover defensively.

Both, however, are untested at the top level of the Premier League given Ake has impressed merely at Bournemouth (no disrespect intended) while Zouma is yet to prove if he can scale the heights he was accustomed to before his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Meanwhile, John Terry will reportedly meet Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe this week to discuss a potential loan move to the Cherries. The Chelsea veteran has been forced out of Antonio Conte’s side in recent months and has failed to break back into the eleven that now plays a 3-4-3.John Terry

Terry has started just four league games this season due to a combination of competition and injury and was further pushed down the pecking order by the return of Nathan Ake.

The Daily Mail claim Howe wants Terry to replace Ake at Bournemouth and will meet with the former England captain by the end of the week. Terry was expected to reject the move to Bournemouth and is still leaning towards staying at Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old is well aware that he will not be given as much game time as he would like but is afraid leaving in January would mean he would miss out on a Premier League title.

He has spent his entire career at Chelsea and does not want to be watching from Bournemouth as his side wins the title in potentially his last season as a Blue.

However, Howe is confident once he gets the chance to talk to Terry, he will be able to persuade him to swap Chelsea for Bournemouth.

The Cherries boss did manage to convince Jack Wilshere he should make a loan move to the club and is optimistic he can repeat the trick with Terry.
