Top 5 contenders for Premier League’s best player award this season

The race for the glorious EPL title already begun 4 weeks ago, and as the prize lies in waiting for the club that gathers most points at the end of the season, so does individual prizes await the players that perform the most.

The Professional Footballers’ Association usually awards/votes a player of the title winning team as the best footballer in the EPL for the season, and here are five likely nominees for the 2016-17 player of the tournament prize.

Sergio Aguero

There is no better way for Kun to kickstart the campaign after notching 6 goals in 4 games for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Argentine looks set to clinch the golden boot this season, provided his injury demons don’t haunt him again.

Manchester City will definitely have their shot at the title this term, and they can bank on the strikes of their lethargic marksman to make it a reality.

The 28-year-old can only get better under the new head coach and if he fires on all cylinders, he could be scooping the EPL, golden boot and POTY awards at the end of the season.

Given his knack for scoring hat tricks, this too is possible.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Yea! Possibly set to become one of the oldest players to ever wow EPL fans while adding a PFA Player of The Year award to it, the 34-year-old has already started to showcase his goalscoring prowess in the top flight having found the back of the net four times in 4 games.

If such mesmerizing form continues, then there might be no stopping Ibra on his way to both club and personal glories at the end of his debut EPL season.

Paul Pogba

Pogback is at Old Trafford once again just to prove his worth to the Red Devils faithful after his unceremonious exit the last time.

His (2nd) league debut already made that statement of intent and with such stellar performances, Manchester United could be the team to beat this season.

The 4-time Scuddeto champion definitely wants to add an EPL winners medal to his trophy cabinet, and if he’s able to do so this term, a POTY plaque might as well accomplish it.

Hazard

After looking more like a shadow of himself for 90% of last season, the Belgian star seems to have slowly picked up steam this term and is set to help the Blues regain lost glory after their fall from grace last time out.

He has thus far been instrumental in three of their league comeback victories and wants to prove he’s not just a one season wonder after winning the league and PFA for the 2014-15 season.

Though many don’t see Chelsea as contenders for the title, but with Hazard on their side, they sure can go all the way (back) to the top.

Coutinho

A season-fit and consistent Coutinho is capable of steering and stirring Liverpool to glory this season, and if that happens, he can’t be overlooked for the prize.

Famous for scoring goal-of-the-season contenders, the Liverpool best player of the year for the past 2 seasons can take it a notch higher by challenging for the top prize on a national level.

His stunner of a free kick against Arsenal in the league opener reeked of quality, and if that goes on for a full season, both Liverpool and the Brazilian are destined for the top.
