Top Five January Transfer Targets for Arsenal

shashi / 01 January 2015

As the New Year approaches, so does the demanding January Transfer Window. Among all the usual suspects in the league if any team needs this transfer window to come good, it is indeed Arsenal.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United will start the Year on a rather satisfactory note and perhaps content with the squad they have. The Gunners however have seen their challenge wither away due to several injuries and lack of reinforcement in key positions.

Arsene Wenger to his credit has come out and said that, he will look to buy players, provided RIGHT PLAYERS ARE AVAILABLE. Well Arsene, look no further, as Sportzwiki brings those 5 players whom You would love to sign in the upcoming January Transfer Window.

We have looked at the best options available for Arsenal given the Champions League eligibility and under a certain price range as well. So, Presenting Sportzwiki’s Top 5 Potential Signing for Arsenal in the upcoming January Transfer Window

5. William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

Arsenal have been crying out for a strong and determined midfield player since the departure of Patrick Vieira. It has been almost 10 years, since Vieira has left and still no one has even come close to filling his shoes. But we could see William Carvalho become that enforcer form the mid field for Arsenal and carry Arsenal’s mid field.

It is not a secret that Arsenal did try to buy Carvalho in the summer, but the move fell down due to third party complications. Lisbon have now bought the full right over the player’s sale. Given how Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Mathieu Flamini are in the last year of their contracts, a £20-£25 Million move for Carvalho would be the ideal signing for Arsenal.

4. Winston Reid (West Ham United)

Another player who has been constantly linked with Arsenal in last few months. Arsenal scouts have watched Reid play in every single game since November. West Ham’s last match at the Emirates could have been the final audition for Reid ahead of a fancied move to the North London Side.

Arsenal firmly believe that they can test West Ham’s patience with Reid, as he is nearing the end of his contract and he has no interest of renewing it either. So West Ham can ill afford letting the player go for free rather get some profit out by selling him.

Arsenal Value Winston Reid’s worth around £4 Million, it is yet to be seen if West Ham demand more for the powerful centre back or will accept this offer from the Gunners. Either way, if Arsenal manage to pull off this transfer, it will be a real coup for Arsene Wenger and his side.

3. Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle United)

We are continuing the same theme about Arsenal needing to sign a strong and powerful mid field player, who can pass the ball with ease, and Moussa Sissoko fits the bill. At a mere £9 Million, Sissoko looks like a bargain, given how he has played for Newcastle United this season.

Arsenal could not have wished for a better timing to raid Newcastle for Sissoko. Alan Pardrew has just left, Mike Ashley has players on the table to be sold and Sissoko will be the first one to attract interest.

PSG have also been interested in signing the Frenchman from Tyneside. So if Mr. Wenger is interested in signing Sissoko, he must act now or else he will see him head to Paris.

2. Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

YES YES YES, another strong central mid field player, who can pass the ball. There is no doubt that Schneiderlin has been the star for Southampton this season. Without him, the Saints would not have been where they are right now. It is a well-known fact that the Frenchman wants out from St. Marys and Arsenal could be his preferred destination.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Arsenal would be a marriage made in heaven. He is the exact kind of player Wenger has always wanted. He is strong, he has the aerial dominance, he has an eye for the pass, and he can pop up with a goal or two.

Schneiderlin will cost Arsenal in region of £15-£20 Million, but will guarantee stable performances for many seasons to come. There are other suitors for the Frenchman. Tottenham and Manchester United have kept a close eye on him, so again if Wenger wants him, he will have to make his move early on in January.

1. Loic Perrin (St Ettiene)

In last few hours, Loic Perrin has moved ahead and has become Arsenal’s topmost Transfer Target for January Transfer Window. He is a powerhouse at the back and a leader as well for St. Ettiene.

His price tag at £6 Million will encourage Arsene Weneger to place a bid early on as the window opens. Arsenal would be keen on signing their centre back options to ease off the unwanted pressures on Calum Chambers and Hector Beralin.

These were our picks for the top 5 Transfer target for Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window. Arsenal do need to sign one of these 5 players or a player similar to the potential showcased on this list or else they will find it very hard to break in to top 4 in the league and their knockout rounds of the Champions League.
