Tottenham and their hopes of breaking in to the Top Four is becoming a myth with every passing season. Since that iconic Peter Crouch’s header against Manchester City to win the race for Top Four in 2010-11, Spurs have not seen Champions League football.

Spurs, however, have not failed to spend big in order to restore their identity as a Champions League club but the results have been alarming. Having spent close to £200million in last 4 seasons, Daniel Levy has tried a lot but has come up short in his attempts to bring the Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.

There has been a constant question mark over Tottenham’s transfer activities but this season, we have seen a different approach by the North London club and it could be down to the fact that Mauricio Pochettino is with the squad full time before start of a new season.

Spurs are clearing the deadwood from their side as they have already sold Etienne Capoue, Lewis Holtby, Younes Kaboul, Paulinho, Benjamin Stambouli and have brought in the much needed defensive cover by signing Toby Alderweireld, Keiran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer.

Perhaps Spurs have understood after all the troubling years that it is not always flamboyance which yields success, it is the defensive stability and composure in the squad which leads a team to glory.

Spurs are in advance talks to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino and are on the verge of selling Emanuel Adebayore and Roberto Soldado, which will make sure that Spurs go in to the new season with a much stable side and will be a major contenders for the Top Four finish in the Premier League.
