According to a report from The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur is plotting a shocking bid to sign Manchester United winger Ashley Young. The 30-year old has been a key figure during Louis van Gaal’s first season but his future looks bleak heading into the new season.
Tottenham are looking to add a new winger into their squad for the new season and have been heavily linked with a move for Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie. Palace are looking for a reported fee of £25 million to let go Bolasie and Spurs are looking for other options available.
With the signing of Depay and Louis van Gaal confirming that Luke Shaw would be a key figure going into the season, Young’s future is unclear at Old Trafford. The English international was used as a wing back/winger by van Gaal in his 3-5-2 formation last season.
Young has only 12 months remaining in his contract and the Red Devils are yet to offer him a new contract. United have the likes of Rojo, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw who could play as left back next season and Memphis Depay who would play as a left winger.
Young would have to take a huge wage cut to the £110,000-per-week deal he is currently at Manchester United to join Spurs but could get a lot more playing time at White Hart Lane.
Ashley Young has made 28 appearences for Red Devils last season as he scored 4 goals and made 6 assists.
