The ex-Ajax defender joined Atletico Madrid on a four-year contract for an estimated €7 million transfer fee on 2nd September 2013.

But he failed to cement a first team place at Vicente Calderón with defenders like Diego Godin and Joao Miranda in the team and made only 12 first team appearances for them.

He won Spanish La Liga with Atletico in 2013-14.

He was loaned to Southampton, on 1 September 2014 with the option for Southampton to buy for £6.3 million at the end of the season and made 26 appearances for the Saints scoring on one occasion.

The ex Ajax defender won Dutch Eridivisie three times back to back in 2010-11,2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

The defender can play both as a right back and a centre back which adds more value to the Belgian in transfer market.

The 26 year old has 47 International caps to his name where he plays as a right back mostly.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bring the Belgian to partner another Belgian Jan Vertonghen at central defence.

The duo has a good chemistry between them as they played together for Ajax also.

Tottenham’s other centre backs are Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches, Eric Dier and Federico Fazio.

Tottenham has two other Belgians Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli and joining his compatriots would surely make it easy for Toby to move to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham are still quite in this transfer window and have not signed anyone yet although they are linked with some good players Yevhen Konoplyanka and Christian Benteke.

Getting Toby would surely upgrade their defence a lot and would be a great signing for the ambitious club.
