Manchester United have been found out in recent weeks without a proper replacement for Michael Carrick as in his absence Man United have lost 3 games in a row. One player who has been seen the long term successor to Michael Carrick is Belgian Alex Witsel.
Currently playing at Zenit, Witsel has expressed his desires to ply in the premier league and specifically for Manchester United, who he has claimed to have followed since childhood.
United were confident of having the first say in a bid to sign the Belgian but in last few days, Juventus have moved ahead in the race to sign the tenacious midfield player.
As per Sky Italia, Juventus are in talks with the Russian club over the summer deal for Witsel and as per the reports, Italian club has already seen a £13 million bid get rejected by Zenit. Juventus are expected to go back with an improved offer of £16m after the threat of losing Pogba and Pirlo’s retirement is looming large over the Italian champions.
Manchester United must act swiftly if they want to sign the 26-year-old midfielder who was tipped to move to Old Trafford before he moved to Zenit back in 2013. They must fend off Juventus in a bid to sign Witsel in the summer.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan as the ideal replacement in the summer. It could come down to Gundogan and Witsel to be Carrick’s long term successor at Old Trafford in coming seasons.
