Leicester City are in the middle of a dream run towards lifting the Premier League title this season and are 5 points clear of the top of the table after the victory over Manchester City this weekend.

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy have set the place on fire everywhere they go and have given Claudio Ranieri a golden chance to clinch the title at the end of the season.

In a statement of intent from the Foxes, star striker Jamie Vardy has now signed a contract extension with the club till 2019 fending away any interests from top clubs in England.

Vardy who signed for the Foxes for just 1 million in 2012 helped the club to the top flight the next season and worked very hard to keep the club away from relegation last season. This season, he has taken it a step further and is leading the goalscoring charts in the Premier League.

He broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record by scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games this season a feat that earnt him a break through into Roy Hodgson’s England national team. He is yet to score for the national side but will surely get his chance in the EURO16 after his splendid displays in the domestic league.

Vardy’s electric pace, tireless work rate and constant harassment of defenders make him particularly difficult to deal with, while as his impressive goal tally for the season demonstrates, his finishing is clinical.

The 29-year old expressed his excitement after a new deal announced and said that he will give his best in the race to the title this season for the Foxes.

I’m absolutely delighted to be fighting to achieve something special with this Club, as part of this squad. I’ve never known a spirit like it – from the owners to the manager and his staff, the players and the fans. I want to be part of it for a long time.”

“Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three and a half years ago and it’s impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve. I’ll forever be grateful for the investment the Club has made in me and I’ll spend every day working to repay it.”

Ranieri and Leicester will be hoping to fend off interests from top clubs the stellar season for the striker and his contract extension will go a long way in making sure that the King Power outfit have a better say in his future.

They will be in a better place to negotiate if big clubs knocking on the door and this new contract will also increase the price of the player helping Leicester cash in if top bucks are paid for him.
