Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be forced to meet his arch rival and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday afternoon for two hours between 3pm and 5pm. The bitter rivals have been invited into the same conference room by the Premier League for the annual managers’ summit. At best it will be civil. The meeting at the Premier League’s Gloucester Place headquarters in London is mandatory. The board has allowed Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino to be absent because Spurs are playing in Munich. That is the only exception.
All 20 managers of the Premier League teams generally discuss rule changes and chit-chat about other matters. It will be interesting to see what these two managers does at this meeting as it is highly unlikely that the managers will talk to each other.
The Mourinho Wenger feud tracks back to almost 10 years. The Portuguese manager has a intimidating record against the Frenchman as Wenger’s Arsenal had never beaten Mourinho’s Chelsea prior to Sunday’s Community Shield match. Arsenal defeated Chelsea after 14 match unbeaten streak.
Jose Mourinho never fails to take a jibe at his enemy whenever he gets a chance. The manager had termed Arsene Wenger ‘a specialist in failure’ a season back as Arsenal had not won a trophy in the last 10 years before 2014. Wenger on the other hand always remained calm gentleman who refused to speak ill or reply to his rivals comments.
On Sunday during the community shield game, neither spoke to each other. They did not even shake each other’s hands after the game. Mourinho had congratulated each and every member of Arsenal except Wenger.
Courtesy Premier League board, the enemies or the rivals will face each other at the manager’s meeting for the new season. Fans around the world will have their eyes on the meeting as it has got a whole new importance due to the presence of the legendary managers.
