After initial hiccups, Arsenal have now won all of their last 4 Premier League games and were superb in their 2-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday.
However, no everything is merry at the club as the manager has failed to tie his star players to long-term contracts for some time now. Reports suggested that Wenger is desperate to sign Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for the long term but the duo are yet to put pen to paper.
Ozil was reportedly close to a new £200,000-a-week deal but it was later revealed that he is not yet ready to sign a contract and that he may be open to a move back to his former club in Spain.
These reports have seen Arsene Wenger take measures to keep the core of his side strong and it is now reported that he is already eyeing Ozil’s replacement if the German international decides to end his Arsenal career this season.
One of the many long-term transfer targets for Arsene Wenger is now back on the radar of the Emirates outfit amid Mesut Ozil’s contract situation.
Borussia Dortmund attacker, Marco Reus, who was splendid in the club’s revival late last season, us reportedly still on Arsene Wenger’s radar ahead of the next transfer window.
The German international was out of the EURO16 in France, due to a groin problem and he is a player who is prone to a number of injuries as he has shown in his time in the Bundesliga.
But he is one of the best and most exciting players in Europe at the moment and is easily a top class addition for Arsenal if Wenger can lure him out of Germany.
According to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb, the French manager is desperate to keep the quality in the squad intact and is planning to move for the 27-year old if he is not able to tie Ozil down to a new contract.
Reus is tied to Borussia Dortmund till 2019 but Wenger is hopeful that he can provide enough incentives to lure him out of the country.
It is understood that Mesut Ozil is waiting for the end of the season and that he will leave the club if Arsenal are not able to win any silverware this season like in the last one.
For a player of his quality, it is natural for Ozil to think about winning trophies and if the Gunners are not able to keep him at the club, it will not be easy to lure his national team-mate away from Germany.
Do you think Arsenal can get their hands on Marco Reus in the next couple of transfer windows?
