West Ham 2-0 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Aakarsh / 02 January 2016

Slaven Bilic’s side started the year with a superb result at Upton Park as they took all three point from in a relatively easy victory against the Red of Merseyside. Liverpool looked lethargic to stay the least and lost the game by two headed goals in either halves.

They hardly created a proper chance and drop to the 8th place in the points table. West Ham move to 4th place temporarily and will be happy with their performance. Here are the player ratings for this game:

Adrian (3):

Was hardly troubled by the Liverpool front line and looked strong whenever called upon.

Made a number of crucial blocks and interceptions and was lively throughout the game.

Proved tough to deal with for Christian Benteke as the defender showed his strength and ariel ability.

Made some mistakes at the back but was generally solid at the back for the home side.

Was sound at the back snuffing out attacks and also provided plenty of width going up the field.

Controlled the tempo of the game in the middle and also provided the cross for Carroll’s goal.

Was relentless on the flank all night and provided the inch perfect cross for the first goal.

Antonio (3.5):

Showed great strength and energy to deny Moreno at one end and score a header at the other in less than 20 seconds. He was a nuisance for Liverpool with his running and ariel ability.

Had a lively start as he hit the post, got booked for a shirt pull and limped off all in the space of 38 first half minutes.

Repaid the faith shown in his by the manager by heading in his second goal in as many games for the Hammers.

Was caught out on the flank a number of times and also needed to do a lot more going forward.

Was not too bad at the back in general but should have done better to keep West Ham away from his goal.

Lacked the heart for a fight as he was beaten far too often in the air and also on the ground.

Moreno (2.5):

Played only an hour and was at fault for not tracking back in the build up to the first goal.

Lucas (2.5):

Was not strong enough in the middle of the pitch as he struggled to create a foothold in the game.

Can (2.5):

Was his energetic self and came close twice to scoring but needed to do a lot more for his side in the middle.

Not the worse game in a Liverpool shirt for the Brazilian who found himself in good position more than a couple of times.

Coutinho (2):

Hardly produced the moments he is capable of and is slowly becoming a passenger in Liverpool’s build up play recently.

Ibe (2.5):

Linked well with his team mates at times and showed quick feet in the final third by failed to put any pressure on the home goal.

Benteke (2):

Looked lazy and un-interested for most parts of the game as he rarely got the deserved service into the box. Just does not fit into the German’s style of play.
