In today’s generation, the whole world is making sure that women get their dues. Several movements have been carried out on small and large scale in order to raise awareness of women empowerment.
However, despite all this, breastfeeding, something which defines motherhood, is still looked down upon by several quarters. Surprisingly, a lot of women are shamed and ridiculed for breastfeeding their infants in public. And recently another woman named Serah Small faced a similar situation.
According to a Facebook Post, Small is an ice hockey player who got back into the rink just eight weeks after giving birth. And during the game breaks, she makes sure to feed her new-born child.
However, on one particular day shl forgot her breast pump at home. She had no other choice but to breastfeed her child and she stripped down in the locker room for the same. She then went on to share the photo on her Facebook wall.
“Being a mom is absolutely amazing and I’m so happy I got to do something I absolutely love while still meeting my babies needs. Our bodies are amazing and this weekend was the first time I truly appreciated mine,” the post read.
And as expected, the posts drew mixed reactions. While some cringed at the act, some lauded Small for her act.
Here are some of the reactions:
Breastfeeding does not belong into the public sphere! Period!,” wrote one.
Another commented:” yes this is how we are made but it doesn’t matter where we are at in public, we should still cover up. Even though they are all women, and not any men around, we need to be modest.“
At the same time, there were many who lauded the act.
“❤️ THIS!! Our bodies are amazing and breastfeeding a baby is the most NATURAL thing a mom can do for her baby. You go girl!! Feeding your baby and playing hockey,” wrote one.
“It wasn’t until I started nursing my first child that I realized how wonderful the experience is, how bonding it felt and how proud I was to be able to nourish my sweet sweet baby … and how insane it is that other people think they have any right at all to interrupt or disturbed that beautiful moment.
This is a beautiful photo of a wonderful mom and sweet baby girl. ? good work momma!! ,” wrote another.
Keeping reactions aside, one should laud Small for her courageous act. And at the same time it is a pity that a natural act like breastfeeding is still drawing criticism from some narrow-minded people.
