India opener Mayank Agarwal said that every test series is equally important in the context of the World Test Championship, be it away or home. Agarwal had struggled in the South Africa tour as he scored just one fifty in the 3-match Test series which India lost by 1-2 earlier this year.

Currently, India is at no.5 in the points table of ICC World Test Championship. Apart from Sri Lanka, India have a series left against Australia and Bangladesh in this WTC cycle. They also will play one remaining test of the England Test series which was postponed last year. Mayank Agarwal is looking forward to this challenge against Sri Lanka.

“I am not thinking too much about the selection in T20 World Cup”- Mayank Agarwal

I am very excited to be part of the squad and part of the Indian Test team. I am really looking forward to contributing to the team’s success,” Mayank said.

Every Test series is of utmost importance because of the World Test Championship. Each Test carries points. The collective thinking of our team is to pick up a win in every match that we play and try to get the maximum points we can from all the Test matches,” he added.

Mayank has a contrasting home and away record so far in Test cricket as he scored all his 4 centuries in home conditions but his away batting average is just 25.65.

“The role of an opener is key in Test cricket because, in a five-day game, it is the openers who set up the day for the batters to follow. It’s something that I have done all my life. I really enjoy doing that. With that being said, I don’t just always want to open the batting. I am also comfortable batting at any position the team wants me to bat, at any given situation,” Mayank said.

Mayank Agarwal is right now not thinking too much about selection in the T20 World Cup.

“I am not thinking too much about the selection in the India T20 squad for the T20 World Cup this year. My thought process is to play well, put in the performances, make sure my team wins, and hope for the best. Whatever happens after that, is okay with me,” Mayank concluded.
