He Didn’t Look After His Body That Well- Ian Healy Isn’t Surprised By His Close Friend’s Sudden Death

Former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy made some shocking revelations about his close friend Shane Warne as he said that he wasn’t shocked by the death of the legendary spinner. He stated that his health had been deteriorating for a long time. However, he didn’t expect it to get worsened to this level at the age of 52.

“He didn’t look after his body that well. He yo-yoed up and down. He didn’t put much sunscreen on,” Healy spoke to The Today Show news.

“I thought it would have become skin issues for him over time, but not 52. And he would have been full of beans right to the end, I bet,” he added.

Healy also mentioned that the legendary spinner always used to pick brains from the likes of Richie Benaud and Ian Chappell.

“From a young age, he was an old man”- Ian Healy

Shane used to communicate with Richie Benaud regularly when he was a young player. He used to pick the brains of Richie. No-one before him did that,’ he recalled.

Then it was Ian Chappell. I remember one day we were warming up and Warnie was talking to Ian, who was getting ready to do the toss or the pitch report. ‘He would ask for their perspective or how to approach a game-day scenario. Shane always wanted to improve,’ “Healy added.

Healy kept the wickets in the early part of Shane Warne’s career as the wicketkeeper announced retirement in 1999. Out of his 708 wickets, Ian Healy helped him in 49 dismissals which included 15 stumping as well.

Healy said that he was very mature at a young age and he also lauded Warne’s astute brain to read the game. He stated that he always used to be ahead of his opposition with his tactics.

“That’s why he was so good and different. From a young age he was an old man.” Ian Healy said.

Ian Healy and Shane Warne also shared the commentary box for many years with Channel 9.
