The Indian women’s hockey team started their World Hockey league semi finals by losing to Belgium in their first match by 1-0 in Anterwp, Belguim. It was a disappointing performance by the Indian team who played some average hockey throughout the match.
In the first quarter India started off well by attacking in the 1st minute which was missed by the striker. In the 4th minute Belgium attacked but was not able to convert chance into a goal. In the 8th minute India got another chance but did not seize the chance. In the 10th minute Belgium scored the goal but India called for review. It was for back stick and the decision was reversed. In the 13th minute India missed a golden chance as the striker was not able to get the ball on stick. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.
In the second quarter both played positional hockey. In the 8th minute India got a chance but were not able to convert. In the last 39 seconds Belguim was awarded their first penalty corner but it was well saved by the Indian goalkeeper. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 0-0.
The third quarter began off well for the Indian team as they put pressure on Belgium defense but was well saved by the goalkeeper. In the 5th minute Belguim was awarded their second penalty corner. It was well saved by the Indian goalkeeper and rebound shot from Lindt made it 1-0 for Belgium. In the next minute India go their first penalty corner but was well saved by the goalkeeper and then by Belgium defense. In the 14th minute India tried to get a chance but were not able to convert. At the end of 3rd quarter it was 1-0 in favor of Belgium.
In the last quarter India tried to attack Belgium but the defense was too solid for the Indian girls. In the 7th minute India earned their second penalty corner but was not well directed by the dragflicker. Both teams tried. At the end Belgium won the match by 1-0.
