India pacer Mohammed Shami has opened up on his ambitions to lead India in Test cricket as he said that he would be ready for any responsibility offered to him. He stated that leading India in any format is a dream for any player and he is no different.
Ever since Virat Kohli stepped down from test captaincy, rumors have been floating around about possible candidates to lead India in the red-ball format. While Rohit Sharma is the frontrunner in the race as he is already the captain in white-ball cricket, the names of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have also emerged out if Indian selectors would go with the split captaincy.
There is also a school of thought that Jasprit Bumrah should get a chance to lead India in the longest format.
“I am available for selection in all formats”- Mohammed Shami
Speaking about the matter, Shami said that he’s not paying too much attention to it but he would be ready for any responsibility given to him.
“I am not thinking too much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn’t want to captain the India team but it is not the only thing and I am looking to contribute in whichever manner possible for the team,” Mohammed Shami spoke to India.com.
Mohammed Shami was rested for the ODI series against South Africa in which India was whitewashed by 0-3. He is again rested for the white-ball series against West Indies starting on February 6. But the fast bowler stated that he is available for selection in all formats and whenever he gets selected, he is looking forward to the challenge.
“I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens, I am more than looking forward to it,” he added.
Shami bagged 14 wickets in 3-match Test series against South Africa which India lost by 1-2. He played a crucial role in the only win India achieved in the tour when he picked 8 wickets in the first test match at Centurion which included a fifer in the first innings.
