ToggleAs India wrapped up the series in the second ODI against West Indies on Wednesday, let’s look at the relevant numbers of the match.
Consecutive 11th series win for India:
It was India’s 11th consecutive series win against West Indies. The last time they lost an ODI series against West Indies, was way back in 2006 when Brian Lara-led West Indies beat India by 4-1 in 5-match series. Since then both sides played a total of 4 series in West Indies and this is the 7th series in India and India won each of them.
The last time West Indies won a series in India, was in 2002 when Carl Hooper led them to win the 7-match series by 4-3. Overall this was the 21st ODI series between the two countries and West India could win only 6 of them.
Away from home struggle continues:
This is 3rd consecutive series loss for West Indies as they lost against Australia and Ireland in the past year. However, they struggled more away from home. Since November 2011, they won only one ODI series outside the home when Afghanistan hosted them in India for 3-match series in November 2019. In the meantime, they drew a series against New Zealand in Dec-Jan 2014. Rest on all 18 series, they ended up on the losing side.
In fact, this was their 10th consecutive loss in ODIs away from home. The last time they won an ODI outside home, was against India in Chennai 2019.
Economical Prasidh Krishna:
Prasidh Krishna returned with exceptional bowling figures of 9-3-12-4. His economy of 1.33 is jointly 3rd best by any Indian bowler who picked a 4-wicket haul in ODIs. Only Sunil Joshi (10-6-6-5) against South Africa in Nairobi 1999 and Stuart Binny (4.4-2-4-6) in Mirpur 2014 are ahead of him.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (6-1-8-4) against Sri Lanka in Port of Spain 2013 and Yuvraj Singh (4-2-6-4) against Namibia in Pietermaritzburg also share the record with Prasidh Krishna.
Successfully defended:
The last time India successfully defended a score of 237 or lower in an ODI, was against Afghanistan (224/8) in the World Cup 2019. At home, the last time India successfully defended a lower total than this, was against Pakistan in Delhi in 2013 when they beat the arch-rivals by 10 runs despite scoring only 167.
