On Friday, India clinched the series with an 8-run win against West Indies as they took an unassailable lead of 2-0 with one match to go. Let’s look at all relevant numbers.

100 wins in T20Is for India:

India has become the second team to win 100 games in T20Is. They achieved this feat in 155 games which included one bowl-out and 2 super-over wins as well. Only Pakistan are ahead of them with 118 wins in 189 games.

India played their first T20I game in December 2006 and played just one game before their historic T20 World Cup campaign in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Among captains, Dhoni led India most times (72 games) with 42 wins, while under Virat Kohli, India won 32 games in 50 matches. But under Rohit Sharma, India’s win/loss ratio is the best as they won 20 games out of 24.

Winning streak:

Since India’s loss against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021, India won 8 consecutive games in the shortest format, first, they beat Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia in the T20 World Cup then whitewashed New Zealand in 3-match series and now they are taking a lead of 2-0 in this series. This is India’s second-longest streak in this format.

Earlier from Jan 2020 to Dec 2020, they won 9 consecutive games in this format. Among Test-playing nations, the record belongs to Afghanistan which won 12 consecutive T20Is from Feb 2018 to Sep 2019.

Fewest wickets lost in an unsuccessful chase:

West Indies lost only 3 wickets in the chase still they didn’t end up on the losing side. This is the fewest wickets they lost in an unsuccessful run chase in the shortest format. Previously they scored 150/4 in a chase of 158 against Pakistan at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Race of leading run-scorer :

Virat Kohli scored his 30th T20I fifty but fell 3-run short to become the leading run-scorer in this format. Currently, Martin Guptill is leading the chart with 3299 runs.

Kohli scored 3296 runs in 89 innings with an average of 51.5 and a strike rate of 137.67. Since Kohli will miss the rest of the T20I fixtures before IPL, Rohit Sharma will have a chance to top the table as he scored 3256 runs in 113 games with an average of 33.22 and strike rate of 140.58.
