IPL 2022 Likely To Begin In The Last Week Of March

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the IPL 2022 season will begin in the last week of March and will go on till May last week. Notable that this season will be a 10-team affair as a total of 74 matches will be played.

Shah also assured that BCCI would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India. There are some reports that state that IPL 2022 might move to South Africa or UAE but Shah is confident to organize it in India.

BCCI will leave no stone unturned to organize IPL 2022 in India

“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India. The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – in India. I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI.

Shah also confirmed that the IPL auction will be held on February 12 and 13 as he is keeping an eye on the Covid-19 situation to give final confirmation on venues.

“BCCI has not compromised on the health & safety of its stakeholders in the past & will concurrently work on Plan B since Covid-9 situation with new variants remains fluid. Mega IPL Auction will take place on Feb 12-13th & we’ll lock in venues before that,” he added.

The Mega auction will be held in Bengaluru as 1214 players have registered for it. The list consists of 270 capped, 903 uncapped, and 41 Associate players.

According to a press release by IPL, the detailed list is- Capped Indian (61 players), Capped International (209 players), Associate (41 players), Uncapped Indians who were a part of previous IPL seasons (143 players), Uncapped International who were a part of previous IPL seasons (6 players), Uncapped Indians (692 players), and Uncapped Internationals (62 players).

Notable the previous two IPL seasons were held in UAE due to the Covid-19 situation. IPL 2021 was initially held in India but around midway, it was halted and the rest of the season was concluded in UAE in September-October last year.
