The BCCI is likely to host the IPL 2022 in Maharashtra and Gujarat. As per a report in the Times of India, the league stage is set to be staged at 4 venues across Maharashtra while Ahmedabad will host the playoff matches.

After a meeting of the office-bearers on Thursday, the BCCI finalized that IPL 2022 would stay in India while UAE has been kept as an alternative option in case the covid situation gets any worse.

The 4 venues across Maharashtra- Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune have been marked to host the league stage which consists of 70 matches. While 4 Playoff matches are likely to be held in Ahmedabad.

“Yes, I believe that the IPL is coming to CCI, and we’ll be very glad to host it,” CCI president Premal Udani spoke to TOI.

Also, it has been learned that 25% of the crowd in Maharashtra will be allowed during the league stage. Though it’s subject to the government’s approval.

“If the number of positive cases isn’t high around that time, the state government authorities are likely to allow around 25% capacity crowds for this year’s IPL, “A reliable source quoted by Times of India.

Notable that during the test match between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, the Maharashtra government allowed 25% crowd of the capacity of the stadium.

“As per that guideline, 50% capacity was allowed indoors, which means that corporate boxes, and perhaps the press box, could be filled up to 50% of the capacity,” the source added.

“Even in the present situation, the Maharashtra government, as per its last order on covid norms, is keen to organize national and international sporting events as long as a strict bio-bubble, and all the covid protocols are maintained.

“This is why the state govt has allowed the ongoing AFC Women, Asian Cup in Mumbai and Pune, the Tata Open tennis tournament in Pune and the next edition of the IPL in the same cities,” the source concluded.
