Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that there will be a bidding war for leg spinners in the IPL mega auction. However, he stated that there are very few quality ones available there.

Leg spinners are considered an integral part of any T20 set-up these days. And if the bowlers have variations like googly, flipper there would be an added weapon in his kitty.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction: There Will Be A Lot Of Fights Over Leg-Spinners - Aakash Chopra 1

Ahead of the mega auction, Aakash Chopra weighed in his thoughts regarding the availability of leg spinners. He stated that the franchises must go for quality rather than quantity.

“There will be a lot of fights over leg-spinners. There are plenty of leg-spinners, the quantity is more but not the quality. I see the quality in just three or four and most of the money will go in that only. That’s the trend we will notice,” Aakash Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

He further added that barring KKR who retained Varun Chakravarthy, every other team would be searching for a wrist spinner. He predicted that Yuzvendra Chahal would be hot favourite to become the most expensive spinner. Among overseas spinners, he picked Wanindu Hasaranga and Adam Zampa to get a lot of interest in the auction table.

Aakash Chopra predicts Chahal as the most expensive leg spinner in the auction

“Barring KKR almost everyone needs a leg-spinner. The leg-spinners who will be sold expensive – Yuzi Chahal, the most expensive spinner. Rahul Chahar can be at No. 2. At No. 3, I am seeing Hasaranga and Adam Zampa at No. 4 and that’s it,” he added.

Chopra also added that few teams might take a chance with some U-19 stars. He suggested that Dewald Brevis who was the Player of the Tournament in the U-19 World Cup might catch some attention at the auction table. He also predicted Shahrukh Khan and Avesh Khan as the two most expensive uncapped players.

“It is said that talent meets opportunity, that is what IPL is all about. It is definitely the case, if we see here the entire Under-19 team has come. But I feel there will be only two uncapped Indians who will be very expensive and one uncapped overseas player who will be expensive,” he said.

“Shahrukh Khan and Avesh Khan will be expensive. I am keeping Shivam Mavi also in this list. Kartik Tyagi will also be expensive although their names are going to come slightly late, so I had held them back. People may go slightly aggressive for Dewald Brevis,” he added.
