Australia speedster Mitchell has responded to the criticism levelled at him by the legendary spinner Shane Warne. Notable that Warne has been highly critical of Starc that the pacer didn’t deserve a place in the XI anymore.
Ahead of the first Ashes test at Brisbane, Warne urged Australia to pick Jhye Richardson over Mitchell Starc.

Mitchell Starc picked 19 wickets in the Ashes 2021-22
“He needs to find a bit of rhythm and some form, he had a really poor [T20] World Cup. He’s just not bowling well enough. It’s too important at the Gabba. So I’m all for Jhye Richardson,” Shane Warne said ahead of the Gabba Test.
Starc picked 9 wickets in 7 matches in the T20 World Cup but conceded runs with an economy of 9.18. However, he started his Ashes campaign brilliantly as he bowled Rory Burns on the very first delivery of the series. But Warne still wasn’t impressed as he claimed that Burns missed a straight delivery.

“That’s a half-volley on leg stump. It’s a great start from the Aussies and Mitchell Starc but as an opening batsman, you gotta be able to hit that. You shouldn’t miss that ball, a half-volley as a left-hander. I don’t think there’s any swing is there? There’s no swing!” Warne said on commentary for Fox Sports.
Starc played all 5 matches in the Ashes as Australia won the series by 4-0. Starc finished the series with 19 wickets at an average of 25.36 and also scored 155 runs with an average of 38.75.
For his performance in all 3 formats last year, he was awarded the Allan Border Medal for the first time in his career. In the award ceremony when Starc was asked about the delivery to bowl Rory Burns, he took a jibe at Warne, “I think, what was it? It was a straight half-volley on leg stump I think someone said.”
“It doesn’t interest me at all. He’s entitled to his opinion.” Starc further added when he was asked about Warne’s criticism.
“I’m just going to go about my cricket the way I’d like to, and I’ve got my family support networks and I get to play cricket with some of my best mates, so I’m pretty comfortable with where I’m at,” he said.
