In a worrying development for fans, the latest update on Mohamed Salah’s contract extension suggests that Liverpool are reluctant to meet player’s wage demand. Mohamed Salah has just 18 months remaining on his Liverpool contract and both parties are currently negotiating on a new deal in the next 5 months.

Liverpool are keen on extending their star player’s contract for a longer-term, reports suggest a new 4-year deal. Mohamed Salah is also very much happy at Anfield and looking to extend his Liverpool stay in the coming weeks. Both the club and player are working on a new deal since the start of the year as the Reds have made this their biggest priority this season.

The 29-year-old Egyptian arrived at Liverpool from AS Roma for a transfer fee of £30.4 million in 2017 and since then he has been one of the most consistent players in the English Premier League. His current market value is £90 million and it will take more than £120 million to lure him away from Anfield.

Salah has scored 111 goals and assisted 42 more in just 165 Premier League appearances for Liverpool. He also scored 33 Champions League goals in 51 matches, no one matches these numbers in the last five years at Premier League. This season, the former Chelsea and Roma forward is on another level, he has scored 16 goals and assisted 9 more in just 20 league matches, leading both goals and assists chart in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah Not Backing Down From His £400k-a-week Wage Demands?

According to a report from the Mirror, Salah’s representatives are negotiating hard with Liverpool and not willing to budge down from their £400k-a-week demand. Liverpool board has a strict wage system at Anfield and they are refusing to entertain this demand, which will cost them £80 million for 5 years. Currently Salah is on international duty with Egypt in on Africa Cup of Nations 2022 tournament.

Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa has pointed out the salaries of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin de Bruyne who earn £500k-a-week and £400k-a-week at their respective clubs. Salah is currently playing his best football and certainly is best player in the league ahead of Ronaldo and De Bruyne. So his agent is using these numbers to negotiate with Liverpool for Salah’s demands to stay.

Salah will surely earn more than what Liveprool are offering at Real Madrid and PSG, who are keeping an eye on his contract situation at Anfield. But Salah is keen on staying at Liverpool and  willing to negotiate contract in the coming weeks. And Liverpool are also ready to discuss this in further meetings as they do not wish to let player enter in his final12 months of contract this summer.
