Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are in contact with Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele over a possible January move. With just a few hours remaining on the clock, Barcelona are pushing hard to sell the French forward but it looks like, it’s too late for both the player and the club.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain approached the player on Saturday and have started negotiating on the same day. The Spanish journalist Guillem Balague reported that PSG and Dembele have a verbal agreement on the table but have yet to decide on a transfer fee with Barcelona. Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are also in touch with Dembele’s representatives, but it has been reported that both are looking for a summer transfer deal.
Barcelona are demanding around £17 million for the player who cost them more than £100 million in 2018. Dembele is one of the highest-earners at Camp Nou and La Liga giants are looking to free up some wage bills by selling the former Borussia Dortmund star. They are in search of a new striker and have linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alvaro Morata. Selling Dembele with certainly fund those moves but manager Xavi is working against the time now.
Dembele To PSG Or Manchester United?
The 24-year-old French forward has struggled for fitness and form at Camp Nou for the last two years. He is yet to score any goal this season in 10 appearances and his recent numbers with the national team are also below average. This has shattered his transfer value and this could be another reason for a lack of interest from the European giants.
Dembele is reportedly asking for more than £300,000-a-week wages and this is why Barcelona pulled out of contract extension negotiations this month. PSG are well balanced to afford those wages and are interested to sign the French forward but it looks like they are reluctant to accept Barcelona’s £17 million transfer fee demands. Ligue 1 leaders have plenty of options in forwarding positions and are comfortably leading the league by 11 points.
Kylian Mbappe is expected to leave this summer as he has just 6 months remaining on his contract and Lionel Messi will be 35 of age this summer. So PSG signing a big-name player like Ousmane Dembele is a high probability. But we have to wait for a few hours to see if this deal is happening this month or not.
Manchester United suffered a big blow after Mason Greenwood was arrested for sexual assault on his girlfriend on Sunday evening. Red Devils have suspended the player and if he is found guilty then he is unlikely to play for the Premier League giants again. Fabrizio Romano ruled out Manchester United’s interest in the player yesterday but it was before Greenwood’s arrest. But now FootMercato is reporting that Ralf Rangnick’s side have contacted the player and looking to steal this deal away from PSG.
