The 2014 Asian Games will kick off in Incheon in three day’s time and India are sending a large contingent to participate in the games. India are strong contenders in Asia and will look to sweep some medals in Shooting, Wrestlng, Archery and Boxing. Here are the top five medal Prospects for India in the 2014 Asian Games.

Yogeshwar Dutt

With Sushil Kumar decided to give the 2014 Incheon Asian Games a miss, now all eyes will be on Olympic Bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt to perform well and strike gold in the Asian extravaganza. Sushil Kumar has decided to withdraw from the Asian Games just to prepare himself for the 2016 Rio de Janerio Olympics. With his absence, Yogeshwar will be leading the Indian wrestling contingent at Incheon. He will be a part of the 65 Kg wrestling in which he will look to strike gold.

Vijender Singh

Vijender Singh haven’t done anything big ever since he won the bronze in the 2008 Olympics. He won a gold in Delhi CWG and failed to repeat the same at Glasgow in 2014. He will be hungry to get the top prize around his neck at Incheon. He will lead India’s challenge in Boxing that includes Shiva Thapa, Devendro Singh, Manoj Kumar, Sumit Sangwan etc. The Pugilists had an aweful time in the 2014 Commonwealth Games where they failed to win a single gold. Now the boxers will be very eager and hungry to win Gold and Vijender will look to lead them all the way.

Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Gold Medal in Olympics and since then he hasn’t let his form dip. He has been performing consistently for the country and he will look to make the country proud in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games where he along his fellow Rifle shooter Gagan Narang will lead India’s challenge in shooting. Bindra, who recently announced his decison not to play in Commonwealth Games in the future after winning a Gold in 10 M Air Rifle event, might be representing India in Asian Games for the last time and he will look to finish it off in an high.

Indian Archery Team

Indian women’s team consisting of Deepika Kumari, Bombalya Devi and Lakhsmirani Majhi go into the Asian games as the hot favourites as thr trio won Gold in the Archery World Cup last month. They will be facing some tough competitions from South Korea who are power horses in Archery. Indian men’s trio of Jayant Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai  and Rohan Bannerjee too are favourites in the men’s section. The archers will look to hit he bull’s eyes and clinch the gold which wasn’t at offer at Glasgow a couple of months back.

MC Marykom

Five time World Champion and Five Time Asian Champion MC Marykom, this alone is enough to conclude how threatening she is to her opponents and her chances of winning a medal is too high in the 2014 Asian Games.

Apart from these atheletes, shooters Gagan Narang, Heena Sidhu, wrestler Amit Singh, Shot Putter Vikas Gowda, KRishna Poonia, Semma Antil, Hockey Teams are also some medal prospects for India.
