Newcastle United have secured the signing of Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for a reported transfer fee of £35 million. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the player has passed his medical on Saturday and agreed on personal terms as well. Guimares will become the third signing of this window for the Magpies, who are also working on other high-profile deals as well.

The 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder arrived at Lyons from Athletico Paranaense in January 2020 for a transfer fee of £16 million. The defensive-minded midfielder has scored 3 goals in overall 71 appearances for the French giants. He also broke into the Brazilian National team during his Lyons spell and has made 3 appearances in World Cup Qualifiers. Guimaraes is known for his work rate at the centre of midfield, his vision, and his creativity with long passes.

Newcastle United are struggling in midfield as there is a lack of creativity from the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Matty Longstaff, and Jeff Hendrix. Manager Eddie Howe is also in the market for an attacking-minded midfielder or winger who can create consistent chances for his forwards. Newcastle United have already spent £38 million to sign full-back Kieran Trippier and striker Chris Wood this month. And this spending has already reflected on their last two Premier League matches, a draw against Watford and an away win against Leeds United.

Newcastle United Offered Alvaro Morata And Ousmane Dembele:

On Saturday, Atletico Madrid offered Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to Newcastle United on loan. The Times report that Morata’s agent is pushing for Juventus exit after the Friday arrival of striker Dusan Vlahovic at the Allianz Arena. His agent is now aware that his client is surplus to requirements and has contacted Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur over a possible loan deal.

Morata is looking for a Barcelona move as Xavi has contacted the former Real Madrid star and convinced the player to join him at Camp Now. But the Catalan giants are struggling with finances to afford any new signings this month after the big-money arrival of Ferran Torres at the start of this window.

Barcelona are pushing hard for Ousmane Dembele after failing to secure his contract extension this month, who has just 6 months remaining on his contract. But the interested clubs are not able to meet up the Frenchman’s wage demands this month and now La Liga giants are looking to offload him on loan to ease their wage budget. Newcastle United had earlier contacted the player but the former Borussia Dortmund star turned down their offer and is willing to fight for his place at Barcelona.
